Hostessing and Serving. Same ish.

If there were any job comparable to waiting tables, it would be seating tables. A lot of times a server has to end up doing both either because it’s too slow for a host/hostess, or they went to the bathroom to text. Some people are just as picky about where they sit, as they are about what’s on their food. It’s like a person who says their steak is not done enough and when they get it back they say it’s over cooked. If you’re that specific, maybe you should make your own, right?
It goes the same for seating. Unless the dummy interior designer build a table right next to a stove or toilet, I really don’t see why it matters so much where you sit. When you eat at home you don’t move your dining table to fit your need of light while you eat that specific time. So how come when you asked me for a window seat, you then said it was too bright. YOU knew it was 75 degrees and sunny when you asked for a window. And I know most people do not have booths at home, so why are they so adamant about sitting in one? Things people who “prefer” these specifications never really think about.
Another thing about seating is some people just don’t understand the idea of maximizing tables, so they get mad at you for no reason. Like when a couple feels the need to come tell me that a party of 6 was seated before them and they were here first. So I tell them, “sir, I apologize but they were a larger party and the table is for 10 people, I can take you to another large open table if you would like”. So out of spite and ego the guest usually says yes. You casually walk them to the bigger table just to hear them say, “this is too big, we’ll wait for a booth”. You probably thought I was going to go off on some rant, but this is just one of the many times you have to kill them with kindness because you know in reality, they’re wishing they never said a word.
