Having to turn in money at the end
of the night is like asking a kid to give them back a piece of candy you just
handed them. Why would we have to turn in money you ask? Throughout a shift,
some people pay with cash, while others pay with credit cards. If everyone, or
too many people pay you in cash, then you will end up owing house cash. This is
because people are paying you for their checks and tips in cash and we have to
hold the money until the end of the shift. On the opposite hand, if not enough
people pay you in cash, the restaurant will owe you money because you don’t
have enough to compensate for the amount of tips you received.
When I have a good amount of house
cash, I always have fantasies of running away with the money and never coming
back. Those are just fantasies of course. The $400 probably would not be worth
the police chase, lawsuit, and possible jail time, although that does not stop
the thought. On a good weekend, I could probably make that amount of money
anyway. Just have to work long, hard, hours and it will pay off. Full time
servers can make more money than some people on salaries so don’t ever
underestimate what their bank account may look like.
